The Serpent ( nachash ) symbolizes the Force of Illusion (i.e., evil)* that God planted in the universe to create the possibility of free choice , and it inherits the following attributes:

Body: Primal Life Force
Kabbalistic Attribute : Self-consciousness in both the positive and negative sense of the word.

Emotional Expression : Survival instinct.
Mental Expression : Self- awareness .
Spiritual Expression: Self-expression.

Serpent's Healing Correspondences
Balanced, Rectified, God-Centered Expression: Self-expression as the fulfillment of our soul's Divinely-ordained mission. When Contaminated by Serpent (Ego) Consciousness: Self-expression motivated solely by self-gratification. Pathological Expression: Sadistic Personality Disorder which is characterized by a need to be the center of everyone's world and exerting physical cruelty to establish that dominion. (Sadistic Personality Disorder is defined as a pervasive pattern of cruel, demeaning, and aggressive behavior.)
Too Much on the...	Too Little on the...
Emotional Plane: Totally driven by creature comforts. Stubborn and stiff-necked. Willing to sell one's soul for comforts and vanity. Competitive. Aggressive.	Emotional Plane: Lacking self-esteem. Shame-based personality.
Mental Plane: Chutzpah and megalomania. Self-absorption. Always assessing the situation in a way that preserves one's central and righteous position. Racist.	Mental Plane: Lacking a sense of social propriety and dignity. Always assuming that others know better. Blind obedience.
Spiritual Plane: I bow to no one. I am the master of my world.	Spiritual Plane: Lack of drive to overcome the obstacles that are always in the path of self-expression.
